I love the Wade Smith signing. Veteran lineman who is versatile. He isn’t an offensive line stud, but solid player. I figured with all the interest from other teams he would garner an overpayment. 4 years, 12 mil, with only 4mil+ guaranteed is a fair deal. This gives us an out if we can’t resign Pitts. In a perfect world getting Pitts with Smith, a healthy Briesel, and an improved Caldwell would be fantastic for our line next year. Anything that keeps Myers and Studdard from starting makes me happy. Takes the sting of not grabbing a CB yet. Should help ease the burden on the draft on the offensive side of the ball. Like what seems as always the past couple of years, we should be defense heavy the top couple of picks minus a RB.

Wait, Kuharsky is saying 6.25 mil guarantee and pancakes is saying 4.25. I trust Kuharsky over JM (even though I don’t have the beef with JM as others do, as I like the guy 75% of the time), but I guess it doesn’t matter either way. Still a good contract IMO.

Does this mean Iupati is off the table now if he is available at 20? I really like the guy and our OL would be supppppppppper deep with him.
Ok I’ll stop posting. I really need an edit option or maybe not be a jerkoff and think about what I want to say before submitting.

@American Idle
I’m not 100% convinced Iupati fits the ZBS, so I doubt he was ever our pick.
However, Wade Smith essentially replaces Chester Pitts as the veteran back-up, so I still expect us to spend a draft pick on it. In my latest mock, we took Matt Tennant in the third round, who’d be an excellent fit for our scheme.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we kept 10 linemen in our Final 53. I know Kubes prefers swingmen as backups, but O-line injuries have haunted us off and on since the team was born, so, if I were him, I’d build some serious depth there as a priority, drafting two or three linemen in the draft.
