“Hey, everybody’s doin’ it!” I guess this is the Texans’ Blogsphere’s version of peer pressure. This roster will actually total 54, with the Texans getting an exemption for Brian Cushing during his suspension:
QBs (3) – Schaub, Booty, Orlovsky.
Notable: Orlovsky’s terrible performance against the Bucs leaves Gary Kubiak with two choices, in my mind. Cut Dan Orlovsky and have John David Booty as the backup, or keep all three. I think we know enough about how the Texans operate to know they won’t cut Dan, so we waste a roster spot on a third QB. Thanks, Dan.
RBs (4) – Foster, Slaton, Johnson, Free Agent.
Notable: Jeremiah Johnson’s dislocated toe complicates things. No word yet on how long he’ll be out, but for a player at his position I’ve gotta believe it will be a little while. Chris Henry is good on special teams, but I still haven’t seen even a hint that he can cut it as a running back on this team. He’s gone once the team finds a suitable free agent replacement.
FBs (1) – Leach.
WRs (6) – Johnson, Walter, Jones, Anderson, Dickerson, Davis.
Notable: I’ve thought for a while that Dickerson might have trouble clearing waivers to get to the practice squad. After last night, I’m convinced of that. Andre Davis might be headed for injured reserve before it’s all said and done, but looking at the roster I think the team can afford to keep six WRs (for now).
TEs (4) – Daniels, Dreessen, Casey, Graham.
OL (8) – Winston, Smith, Myers, Brisiel, Brown, Caldwell, Studdard, Butler.
DE (4) – Williams, Smith, Barwin, Jamison.
DT (4) – Cody, Okoye, Mitchell, Okam.
LB (6) – Ryans, Diles, Bentley, Adibi, Sharpton, Greenhouse (Cushing suspended).
Notable: This came down to Clark vs. Greenhouse. Clark is still an effective player at his age, but Greenhouse has looked good in the preseason, and Clark is hurt. Personally, I’d like to see the Texans hold on to Clark but I think they will go with youth and undetermined ceiling over knowing what they will get with Clark (that is, when he can actually get on the field).
CB (6) – Jackson, Quin, McCain, McManis, Reeves, Molden.
Notable: I didn’t seen Molden on the field last night, so I’m starting to wonder if he’s either hurt again, or just plain isn’t going to make the team… or maybe I just missed him.
S (4) – Pollard, Wilson, Barber, Nolan.
ST (3) – Rackers, Turk, Weeks.
Notable: Rackers has just been named as the kicker, as I expected. For a long time I thought that if the competition was close, Brown would get the nod – but the news that he is dealing with an injury coupled with the fact that he would be carrying “mental baggage” into the year made the choice easy for me. Brown could have done fine in 2010 with the Texans, but with the events of 2009, one bad miss could have made everything unravel, and that’s not a chance the team can afford to take.
Practice Squad (8) – DT Malcolm Sheppard, WR Bobby Williams, CB Mark Parson, S Torri Williams, OG Shelley Smith, OT Cole Pemberton, DE Jesse Nading, C Brett Helms.

Agree except Okam. Robinson just seems to out play him in the “bigger” DT role.

I have to agree with Rackers, but I think Booty showed more than Orlovsky when playing in the preseason. I thought Olo. was pushing his passes into too much coverage when pressed; I did see that in Booty’s play during 3 pre. game as well but he was hitting our players more othen than Olo. I would have liked to see whom you picked fopr the PUP spots in the article.

@RonK
You mean the Practice Squad spots? I can do that.

Agree with all except on J. Reeves. Drop them and add Deljaun on the DLine.
And if Greenhouse makes the roster, can he please change his number? That 61 is not working.

I’m glad I’m not the only Texans blogger that picked Greenhouse to make the team as well.

Yeah, but I think he’s the cut once Cushing comes back.
