Mock Draft Tracker update: Thomas, Price rising

Filed in: Draft Talk, Houston Texans & NFL
Posted by: Chris on February 14th at 1:25PM

Here’s the first update of the Mock Draft Tracker since the relaunch. I added six more mocks, which puts us at 38. The biggest risers since the relaunch are Texas S Earl Thomas and UCLA DT Brian Price, at +3 each.

Right now I’m letting a lot of mocks through that haven’t updated in a while – but only because I’m cutting slack at this early stage. Once the Combine has come and gone, I’m going to start cutting mocks that are more than 3-4 weeks old.

I had price pretty high. I think he will drop after the combine. I really hope the texans aren’t even on his radar or vice versa

Well, admittedly, Brian Price is on my mock because we traded down with Minnesota and converted our 4th into their 2nd.

The bottom line is that Houston likes to draft d-line in the first round, and no one can refute our need to improve the interior. And, Price or not, me and Chris are going to have to agree to disagree on the idea of moving Amobi to the nose. That said, I’d still rather Earl Thomas if he falls.

However, if we trade up, I will be angry. This year, that would be a terrible mistake, Joe Haden or not.

I like the draft from ffjungle Thomas in the first and Pouncey in the second.

We need to grab a CB in the second. Between Cox, Ghee, Jackson, Franks, Warren, McCourty, and Robinson, someone has to fall to the Texans.

Think about guys a center who doesnt suck??? im just saying that we should at least look at a center in the second…I wouldnt mind Cox in second either hes tall and fast and can take over J.J.’s punt return duties.

What about J.D. Walton in the third? And if he’s not available then Matt Tennant?

    @ Kyle

I don’t think you have to worry about the Texans trading Up,, Not unless Ndamukong Suh were to fall 5 or six spots… Then they still wouldn’t be able to “give up” as much as other teams in order to move up that far..

Hey I saw on BRB that you would be willing to trade Demeco for a 1st round pick. Actually I noticed a few guys said they would, I was just wondering your reasoning by willing to do that. I just can’t understand why anybody would be trade a 2 time pro bowler, team leader, etc. for a draft pick, especially with the high bust rate there is in the first round. Why would anybody be willing to trade a proven stud for an unknown commodity? Just curious what you thought…

hell, i’d do it in a heartbeat for Rolando McClain. DeMeco will demand a ton of money to stay, and I would be perfectly fine in giving it to him. However, some of these prospects are simply more talented, and while it’s certainly a risk, it could also pay off very well so long as we get the right player.

I just think he is going to want alot of money

I love demeco don’t get me wrong. I just think you can find a MLB cheaper that is good maybe not great and spend the money elsewhere.

I have no problem keeping him but I think diles could play inthe middle and I’d be VERY interested in a WLB that can cover like weatherspoon or the kid from tcu

This will certainly be a telling free agency for the current regime. We’ve never let a star player on our team go before, but, with Ryans, Daniels, K-Dubz, AND Dunta potentially hitting free agency, we’ll find out for sure how determined the Texans are at maintaining their core players.

But…it’s not like we’re tight on the salary cap. Why not just pay the guy?

Even though I dont want TO, you know that 4 letter TV station would jump all over that game when we play the Cowboys.

UPDATE: My draftdebacled.com 4-round mock has been updated! We trade down with Dallas so they can have Golden Tate, then draft as follows:

27 (from DAL): Brian Price (you KNOW we’re gonna draft a lineman in the first; we always do)
50: Donovan Warren (Matt McGuire thinks he could be the steal of the draft)
83: Nate Allen (this was pure luck, but he fell to us in the third round)
90 (from DAL): Toby Gerhart (you knew it would happen)
115: Mitch Petrus (if Chris Kuper is an RFA, chances are we’ll need to draft our new LG)
122 (from DAL): A.J. Edds (he’s a 245-pound linebacker who is athletic enough to play TE. I’m hoping he could become our new awesome WILL LB, but, even if he’s only a SAM, we all know that we need the best backup SAM possible because Cushing plays too intense not to get hurt)
