I’m working out the kinks and assembling my list of mocks to relaunch the Draft Tracker. If you remember it from last year, I’m open to suggestions and changes/criticisms. Last year I was constantly struggling with one big question: Quantity or Quality? There sure was a ton of quantity… but not a whole lot of quality.
That said – the Tracker did end up accurately predicting the Texans’ selection of Brian Cushing. It’s about that time again… so be on the lookout for the Draft Tracker, coming soon. This is the first entry of the year where I use the 2010 Draft tag. Yep, it’s about that time.

You did a good job with it last year. I say include all of the mock drafts you find then give them time to update them. If they cant seem to get the draft order right, Texans not selecting a QB in the 1st Rd or anything else rediculous then I say eliminate them later on.

Why not both?? Have a Quantity list that shows tons of mocks and the consensus picks. Have another with a top 10 or 15 (or whatever) mocks and the consensus of that group.

I know this may sound crazy, but would you be okay with having a poll here, and ranking the draft tracker in order of blog preference? Meaning your blog’s preference. For instance, maybe a vote for the most credible like Scouts Inc., FOX, walterfootball, Rivals, etc. That would be on one side, and would stay there updating as they see fit. Then on the other side there could be the myriad of other mocks constantly updating all willy-nilly like the do.
I’m trying to remember, was that how it was last year?

The Huddle Report lists the top sites. If you emphasize them, you have a very good chance:

If you want another slant, you could average the points each player the Texans are predicted to take, based on the top 10 or 15 sites ranked by the Huddle Report.

How’s this for a slant? DraftDebacled.com is doing a free Mock draft contest, and, if enough HDH fans entered, there could be a separate tracker for just those of us who have posted mocks.

Good suggestions here. I’ll mull them over while continuing to tweak and prepare the Tracker. Might open another discussion about it once I have it up and running. Thanks guys!

For 1st rd, are you looking at Oline or DB?
Jan 24, 2010 at 11:55:31
@SAMURAI
The rumors spreading at the footballsfuture.com Texans forum is that we won’t need O-line because with Dennison will come Denver guard Chris Kuper.
Right now, it’s looking like Earl Thomas, Donovan Warren, or maybe Dan Williams.

Kyle,
I am one of them that guessing Kuper may come to the Texans at Taxanstalk.com. But, Kuper can be a good use at DC as well. So, you never know. Should we not sign any OL from FA, we may be drafting one OL in early rds, like in between 1st-3rd. Earl Thomas would be agood pick for us. We need a ballhawk FS with range. Heck, he should be able to play CB as well in case DR seeks other opportunity.

@SAMURAI
IMO, drafting Earl Thomas at cornerback is a waste. His playmaking ability is best when he doesn’t have to put the blinders on and go after one guy. If we were a primarily zone defense, I’d say okay (but that could be said for most of the free safeties in the draft).
As far as the o-line, my problem is that I sincerely doubt that Kubiak is going to want to deviate from his “awesome line” of 2008, which means Pitts, Myers, and Briesel are still probably starting in the middle, with Caldwell either being rotated in or wasted on the sidelines.
Kubes has shown himself to be notoriously slow on giving up on players (faggins, green, Chris Brown) so, with the exception of homeboy Dennison bringing in “his guy” (Kuper), I doubt we draft a lineman with the intention of him starting soon.

Of course, I want Thomas to play FS should we draft him. I am only saying he is good DB. Hopefully, we will be able to sign a few FA’s(Starter material) including Kuper. Do you think Pitts will be with us next year? Due to injury, we may be sign Pitts at good price. However, do you expect him to come back 100% from injury? I am really concerned about his injury and uncertain of Pitts’ health. This is why I am expecting us going after OL.
