Report: Texans on Bill Cowher’s short list

I was just going to throw this in to the post-game draft I’m working on, but I figure it will generate some discussion.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network and NFL.com reports that the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, and Houston Texans are on Bill Cowher’s short list.

I’m posting this for us to discuss, but let me just say up front – there’s a better chance of Vince Young being the Texans starting QB next year than there is that Bill Cowher will be the Texans’ head coach. Sure, I think the Texans might absolutely be on his short list – but for no other reason than to drive up his price and generate more leverage for the deal he eventually gets from the Carolina Panthers.

So, have at it.

isn’t that the same guy that said Larry Johnson coming to the Texans is “a lock”?

Yeah, the Texans are on my short list of preferred coaching locations, too. There are 2 unfortunate problems. One, I have no qualifications for any job in the NFL. Two, THEY HAVE A COACH.

This is the best Texans team there has been. The team has made steady progress under Kubiak and Smith. This is not a quick trigger finger owner. Despite what all the idiots in main-stream-media say, Kubiak isn’t going anywhere.

Of course the Texans are a preferred team for someone to head coach, they have an improving young defense with at least 3 really good young players, a pretty good offensive line, top receiver, and really good QB. And a loyal owner. What coach wouldn’t want to walk into that after Kubiak and Smith have done the hard work rebuilding from nothing?

I believe kubiak has done a very good job of turning the texans around from the capers dark ages. He has helped us play as a team and he is the one who brought schaub to houston. But I do not believe Kubiak can take this team to the next level. We really need someone like Cower to shake things up a bit. His leadership and prestige is a must for our team.

Kubiak is a good coach but not great. Bill Cowher is great, Texans need to stop accepting good and shoot for great.

kubiak lacks leadership and consistently makes bad coaching decisions. Always gets conservative with his offense and he has no nuts. He just doesnt have what it takes to be a good head coach.

Kubiak is a loser! schaub is a average Qb with a strong support group, and he still can’t win in a pressure situation, and never will. Whats he doing on TV anyway, he’s a chocker always has been, we should have kept rosenfels and cut shaubs fragile ass 2yrs ago. Do you hear me Matt? you aint going to get any better you peak’d and nobody noticed your mole-hill sized mountain of achievments, Are there any? i can’t stand watching them anymore and dam sure not going to spend the money to see them live! You want people to support your team Mister Mc Nair you better wiseup quick cause its easy to lose the support you’ve been given and houston has run 1 team out of the city n state before, will you be next?

I would absolutely LOVE to see Bill Cowher as Houston’s next coach. There is no doubt in my mind that we have a good team, and that all we need is a good coach, a good DEFENSIVE coach. That’s what Cowher will bring to the table. We already have a great offense, just one that chokes a bit. However, if our Defense would stop playing like crap we wouldn’t be in those close situations anyways. We’d be blowing people out of the water. As for the guy who says Schaub isn’t good, ok I was like that at one point. I thought Schaub was good, but had little confidence. I still feel that way. However, I think he is not just a GOOD QB, but a GREAT QB. Or at least has the potential to be. The problem is, his defense absolutely fails him. Plus, his Coach isn’t doing anything to help him gain confidence. He rarely lets him even go for a 4TH down play. Which shows that the Coach is not confident in his team’s abilities. I think that we are a good team. I think we can contend with anybody. However, until we have a Coach that is made to take teams to the next level (I think Kubiak is just a coach to turn bad teams into fairly decent teams) then I don’t think we’ll make it to that level. We will not make the Playoffs next year unless we have a coach like Bill Cowher, so if we wait around and give Kubiak another shot chances are Cowher will sign with someone else, take them to the Super Bowl, and we’ll be a mediocre 8-8 team again.
