A. Johnson has a lung contusion, Kubiak hopeful

That would explain why he was apparently coughing up blood on the sideline yesterday. When they said he had a “chest contusion,” I was confused because you don’t cough up blood from a chest bruise. To me, a lung contusion sounds like something serious and I’m pretty sure if I had it, I wouldn’t be able to type, much less play football… but that’s why Andre Johnson is Andre Johnson, and I’m a blogger.

Gary Kubiak said in his weekly press conference, regarding Johnson: “Hopefully, he’ll be ready to go against Buffalo.” “Hopefully” doesn’t fill me with confidence, and the Texans are going to need everyone to get a road win against a team desperately trying to hang in the playoff race.

Kubiak also amusingly had to stifle some laughter as John McClain tried to get the coach to place blame on someone for one of Vernon Davis’ three touchdowns yesterday. For some reason, that made me laugh… but in the end he placed blame on both SS Bernard Pollard and LB DeMeco Ryans for the score.

Coach Kubiak also said the team would continue to work hard on Steve Slaton’s fumbling issues. It’s amazing how much the coach tries to blame everyone else (in addition to Slaton himself) for the problems, but being politically correct seems to be part of the job description for a lot of head coaches. He’ll never say it, but come on - Slaton’s problems are his own. It’s all in his head, because he proved last year he could play in the NFL without having the fumbling problems that plagued him in college.

    Chris,

Yesterday when Chris Brown left the game he was holding his right arm and calling for a substitute. What’s his status….he looked reasonably good until that point and I never noticed him again.

The thing about being a leader, such as a coach, is that you get all the blame when things go wrong, and no glory when they go right. This is the mark of a great coach. Kubes has always done this. He takes the blame for mistakes, and gives the glory to the players for the success.

Maybe not having Andre Johnson on for a couple games will make Schaub an even better quarterback. On some plays he focuses on Andre Johnson too much.

@Tom - I completely disagree with you. Not having the best WR in the NFL would not make any QB better.

If Andre has to sit, I would rather he sit at Buffalo and then play at Indy. We need him for both, but Indy will be crucial.
