Texans work out six RBs, including Ryan Torain
On a day where some of us thought the Texans might make a deal to acquire a running back, PFT reports that the Texans brought in six runners, including ex-Bronco Ryan Torain.
The full list:
Lorenzo Booker
Thomas Brown
Julius Crosslin
Kyle Eckel (who is actually a full back)
Allen Patrick (PFT actually had it as Patrick Allen, but he’s a CB)
Ryan Torain
Jake from BRB and myself had been frothing at the mouth waiting for Denver to cut Torain earlier in the season, but he got injured (again) and ended up on injured reserve. At some point that I missed, the Broncos did an injury settlement deal with Torain and cut him loose, as he is not currently listed on their practice squad.
Sounds like the Texans are up to something, because as far as we all know – all the RBs on the roster and practice squad are healthy. Obviously Steve Slaton will remain the starter, but maybe the Texans are finally agreeing with most of the rest of us that Chris Brown is not the answer as the short yardage back.
For the record – I still like Brown as a change of pace guy – but not as a short yardage goal line guy.
I assume we’ll find out tomorrow if the Texans signed any of the above. They already got a guy I wanted in Chris Henry, but if he’s healthy now, I’d LOVE to see Ryan Torain in the Deep Steel Blue.
Texans expected to sign 30 year-old LB Winborn
According to Mark Berman, the Texans will sign LB Jamie Winborn to the active roster. DE Tim Jamison will be moved back to the practice squad assuming he clears waivers.

Allen Patrick was a safety at ou and became a rb when Adrian Peterson went down. He is a one cut runner but I’m not sure he could be much help. He was pretty quick if I remember and could hit hard for a safety

So is Torain more short strided and more compact of a runner? CB is a pretty heavy load, but like said it’s once he gets going. So if this guy is Slaton quick with Brown power, suit em up!

I love Jamie Winborn. I hope that he does well here (although he’ll probably only be on special teams).

I can’t understand why the Texans don’t use Chris Brown more between the 20′s where he’s been effective. He looked good in preseason, he looked good against the Bengals, and he hasn’t done crap as a short yardage back. I completely understand them having him come in as a change of pace guy, but PLEASE stop the short yardage back experiment.
