[HDH FANTASY FOOTBALL UPDATE #2] We have twelve members for the HDH Fantasy Football league. Here are the players: AllenOU, Truth, nactexanfan, KD, AmericanIdle, myself, Battle Red Bill, Tailgate Andy, KO, Doc P, Lumberjackato (what is that thing?), and LA26 (unless I mistook his “cheer” in the comments for interest in the league).
If there are two more who want in, we can stretch to 14.
[HDH FANTASY FOOTBALL UPDATE] We now have 10 players who have opted in: AllenOU, Truth, nactexanfan, KD, AmericanIdle, myself, Battle Red Bill, Tailgate Andy, KO, and Doc P. Again, let me know if I missed someone. Still a few spots available.
Texans blogger news… and not the good kind
By now most of you know that Matt blew his brains out all over the Internet, and DGDB&D is no more. Fellow Austinite BFD has packed up his cleanest dirty shirt and set up shop over at BRB, bringing their number of total quality bloggers to – hang on one second… EIGHT THOUSAND. As great as BRB already was, it just got that much better… plus – BFD is good with the restaurant recommendations. (His looks aren’t what kept him over at DGDB&D, folks.)
As for Matt, his voice will be sorely missed in the Texans blogosphere. Nobody can break down barbecue and defense like Matt. Here’s the good news – I’ve already traded emails with him post-blog suicide, and he says he’s still interested in doing podcasts, as he and I did last season. More details on that in the future, but at least you’ll have his booming, masculine voice to look forward to.
Fantasy Football
There’s been some talk in the comments about the possibility of me starting an HDH Fantasy Football league. I’m definitely open to the idea. I need at least ten, and no more than 14. Honestly, I think 12 is the perfect amount, but I’ll let you guys give some input on this topic as well. I’m used to Yahoo, and am comfortable with it, but I’ll put it to a vote whether we do Yahoo, ESPN, CBS, or whatever other suggested hosts you guys have.
So – opt in with a comment, and I’ll update the number of remaining slots until the league is filled. Rules and all of that will be figured out later. Here’s my ONE rule for opting in – you MUST MANAGE YOUR TEAM. None of this business where after the draft or after a bad losing streak, you just give up on your team and don’t make the appropriate weekly changes. Missing a week due to circumstances you can’t control is one thing, it happens – but you can’t just abandon your team over and over again. The punishment for such an offense is public ridicule via sports blog.
One important note about opting in – some comments get published to the blog immediately, and some experience a delay. Still others who have not commented before, will have to have their comments approved prior to appearing on the site. Basically what this means is – someone might opt in before someone else, but it might not show up right away. I’ll do my best to limit this, but I can’t completely control it.
So far, the following have expressed interest, so I’m holding spots for them:
AllenOU
Truth
nactexanfan
KD
AmericanIdle
Me
If I left anyone out that didn’t already opt in, let me know. I might have missed someone. That leaves six spots open – and a maximum of eight if I can be convinced to do a 14-team league. (Does anyone have a problem with 14?)
NFL Picks League
We did this last year, and I’d like to do it again if there’s enough interest. For those not familiar, it’s a Yahoo picks league, where you pick winners weekly from every NFL game. Don’t let the fact that I won going away last year discourage you. There was a prize and everything… but I saved myself that expense by absolutely destroying everyone. This one I’m not going to put a cap on – as many that want in will get in. So again, opt in with a comment to participate in either or both of these.
Twitter talk
Until recently, I’ve only been using the Twitter feature to link to stories on the web about the Texans… but I think I’ll be using it a little more to keep in contact with other sports-related Twitterers (Tweeters? …Twits?) For example, I couldn’t resist Twitteralizing with Chad Johnson about how he was literally soliciting fans to pick him up at the airport. Anyway, so there will be a higher volume of – but less-quality Twitteralizations. But I promise – I won’t be Twitteraltating about going to Best Buy, or a trip to 7-11 (unless I do both in the same day because, WOW – what a day that would be).
Podcasts
…are about to return. Sooner than you think. NOW! (Not really, but soon.)
So, you have work to do. There is much to discuss.

I would like to get in on the FFB league and am not opposed to a 14 team league.
Jul 27, 2009 at 07:49:02
I’d be interested in both the fantasy football and the picks league. If we don’t get another hurricane, I might even be able to make picks every week.
Jul 27, 2009 at 09:15:38
I’d be down with a picks league. Fantasy teams just mess too much with my ability to appropriately hate opposing teams/players/coaches.
Jul 27, 2009 at 09:55:11
I will once again vie this year on the picks segment. Think I got 3rd last year, and if that isn’t good enough for Lance, then it isn’t good enough for me. Yellow jersey, er whatever, or bust.
Jul 27, 2009 at 10:42:39
If there is still a spot available I would like to get in on the Fantasy league.
Jul 27, 2009 at 11:36:15
I’m not opposed fopr 14 teams. Just let us know what site you pick. I get vick and burress though no questions asked. Lol
Jul 27, 2009 at 12:17:33
Football, it’s almost here.

Please manage your team, that is a must. I know Ike was the only reason some werent able to manage for a week or 2 last year. When you notice people neglecting their team and you play a team that has starters in their bye week, it sucks. Sucks even more when you are trying to catch someone in the standing and you know you cant because they are playing the team that has bye players starting.
I have done ESPN in the past but I dont know if you can have more than 10 teams. I could be wrong. But i have no preference to the site. I just suggest that we have our draft somewhere between Sept. 5-10 (after roster cuts/Before Season).
Anyway, I never done a picks league but that sounds fun to. I dont mind taking that crown away from you Chris.
Jul 27, 2009 at 16:06:55
Picks league also sounds good. count me in.
Jul 27, 2009 at 16:13:23
Im interested in a ff league, Chris. How much? And would i be a burden to schedule for a draft because i work 3-11 and my days off rotate?
Jul 27, 2009 at 16:21:42
To me, fantasy football is fun. If I make it a pay league, it will become work, and I will spend WAY too much time on it. I have no interest in making this a pay league. Is everyone else cool with that?
Doc, you’re in.
Jul 27, 2009 at 18:14:03
If you have a spot open, I’d like to join. I am the commissioner of a FF league so I’m a devoted player. I just found your site. I like what I see.
Jul 27, 2009 at 19:23:41
I’d like to play if spot open
Jul 27, 2009 at 19:27:03
FANTASY FOOTBALL LETS GO!
Jul 28, 2009 at 07:44:53
Pay or no pay I’m cool with it either way (I didn’t mean to rhyme). My vote would be for Yahoo because that’s what I’m used to but I’ll do whatever.
Jul 28, 2009 at 10:55:11
Ohhh lol I should’ve clarified I’m IN!
Question about the FF league though.I’ve been hearing the new craze in fantasy football is something about an addition to the roster.Which allows you to pick up 1 or 2 defensive players.I think its called “IDF”.
Jul 28, 2009 at 13:39:55
I want in on the fantasy and the picks leagues. I might have an issue with the draft date if it’s in the second half of August, but I’ll wait and see.
Jul 28, 2009 at 15:53:53
Lumberjack because I go to sfa in nacogdoches and ato is alpha tau omega
Jul 28, 2009 at 18:06:36
My vote for fantasy football is yahoo and I agree with KD on the time because that is the best time.I would not be opposed to picks and a survival football league. In survival football, you pick one team that you are sure is going to win each week, but the catch is once you have picked a team, you cannot use them the rest of the season and if the team you picked loses you are out. There are other interesting games like salary cap football on yahoo, but it might take too much time out of schedules. Survival football does not take much time out of people’s schedules.
I just wanted to know, if we do a picks league, are we going to do it against the line or straight up?
Jul 28, 2009 at 20:21:47
Chris- Please send me an email when the time/date for draft is set! And actually, ill be in town from 8/28-9/8 so maybe…i know thats kinda late…(but KD would appove!)
I plan on attending the UH (alma mater) home-opener on 9/5, the ‘Stros v Phillies on the 6th, and maybe the Texan-Viking preseason game on 8/31(gotta sate my jones’ while i can, no NCAA or pro sports in western Ks, lol!), and i have plans for the 29th in the afternoon so those dates would be out (at least for the afternoons), IF, we were to meet that late.
Ive played IDF leagues on cbssportsline and you pick 2 DL’s, 2 LB’s, 2 DB’s, and a ST (won it 2 yrs ago, so look out Chris and KD!). But i agree, it sux when folks dont “play” anymore because theyre cellar-dwellars. Or if you play where everyone makes the playoff, teams that lose early on purpose so as to get the “hot” out-of-nowheres guys off waivers. However, Ike was a “reasonable” excuse…for anything!
Let me know!! Im kinda hyped!
Jul 28, 2009 at 21:10:02
Oops, almost forgot-im cool with no pay, braggin’ rights are all i need! Although a side-bet with the commish for a tee-shirt (HoustonDiehards FF Champion on back-Chris’ mohawk pic on front left chest)might be in order! In Battle Red and Steel Blue, of course!
Jul 29, 2009 at 00:25:28
I’m in for the pick em game. Looks like the FF league will be full but if you’ve got an open spot let me know. I’m in 2 leagues now and have no problem managing a 3rd team.
Jul 29, 2009 at 08:18:12
Yahoo is cool with me as well.
Jul 29, 2009 at 10:22:09
Yahoo is what I’ve always used
