Texans add another UFA, DT Jake Visser

You can track undrafted free agent signings and view the Texans’ 2009 Draft Class by clicking 2009 Draft Class & UFAs in the Offseason Central box above.

The Texans added another undrafted free agent – this time, DT Jake Visser from Ferris St. There’s not a whole lot of info out there on him as you might expect. The team has now signed a total of 12 undrafted free agents. (There were 12 as of yesterday, but fullback Bill Rentmeester ended up signing with the San Diego Chargers, so I yanked him off the table).

    Not sure if you can call it confirmed but PFT through an interview with a league source confirms Foster is a Texan:

    @Buck
    I typically wait until they put it on HT.com to call it confirmed. Interesting note about Foster – I forget the source (McClain maybe), but the Texans had to sign him to a two-year deal to land him.

    2 years – for an undrafted free agent! Not unprecedented, but pretty rare. They must really like him.

    @Chris

    Other teams must have really liked him as well for them to have to fork out a 2 yr deal for an UDFA. Per PFT the Saints were also in the running, there may have been more. Hopefully can only mean good things. I watched a few U of Ore games out here and I’m excited to see what Jeremiah Johnson can do in the Steel Blue.

    It will also be interesting to see what RB’s get released. Selvin Young and Chris Henry are two that I would like to see brought in.

    NFL Draft Scout says, “Was reportedly given a second round projection by the NFL and strongly considered going pro after his junior year…May never be a star but has starting potential at the next level…Could be a steal for someone if teams place too heavy of an emphasis on his performance as a senior.”

    On the other hand, he has some personal issues (refused to talk to the press), fumbles too much, and underperformed in 2008.

    Always been a Houston fan since I lived there in the eighties. I was pleasantly surprised to see Jake Visser picked up by the Texans. I have seen him play and he is fantastic. He was usually double teamed but still led his team in tackles, if not the whole conference.

    I sure would love for the Texans to take a look at New Mexico State Quarterback Chase Holbrook. He had 70% accuracy and a ton of yardage and touchdowns in his college career. Might he be a developmental project at least? A candidate for the practice squad? He has all the measurables.
