Well, now the Chronicle has done a Spencer update of their own. They look at the situation with considerably more dread than I did below - which is quite a reversal for both sides. Speaking of the Chronicle - in his blog, Lance Zierlein commented on Spencer’s status, saying:
He’s too big for what they want at guard and his recovery status is still a concern. Don’t be surprised if you see an injury settlement at some time.
Lance, like all of us, isn’t always right - but he’s right a lot of the time. As much as I want Spencer to make the team, I never thought he was going to. What you read below was literally the first time that I’ve allowed myself to think that he might actually make the team… now this.

Doesn’t the PUP list mean that he wouldn’t be available until middle of the season?
Because if so, and if he keeps progressing until then……well it would probably work out well with our injury schedule and need for replacements.

Yeah, it would put him out for the first six games - so really, after almost two years, what’s another six games? Plus, hey - it’s the offensive line. The more depth, the better.
I know Dunta and Spencer have become good friends while working out together… if they cut Spencer loose, we’ll hear Dunta’s first negative comments since that day he dropped a bomb on David Carr way back when.

That bomb was AWESOME. After hearing that interview replayed on the radio a few years ago, I truly fell in love w/ Dunta as a Texan.
