Numbers according to the Houston Chronicle:
“Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Jacques Reeves, 25, signed a five-year deal worth $20 million…”
It was later reported that Reeves will receive $8 million in guaranteed money.
According to a story on ProFootballTalk:
“Gay has agreed to terms on a four-year, $17.8 million deal, which includes a $3.75 million signing bonus and $6.9 million in guaranteed money.”
Officially, color me confused and bewildered. A guy with a DeMarcus Faggins-esque reputation cleans up over a guy who was allegedly one of the better mid-tier free agent cornerbacks?
Someone needs to help me understand this.
Yes, I get that Gay will average more money per year since his contract is a year shorter – but we all know NFL contracts don’t mean a lot unless you’re talking guaranteed money, and Reeves pulled $1.1 million more than Gay… yep… I’m still confused. And bewildered.
