The first round of the NFL Draft turned out to be… pretty crazy, but not as crazy as the analysts are saying it is.
Who knows who the Texans are targeting in the 2nd, but we can certainly talk about some of the guys we’d like to see them make a run at. The Texans pick 10th in round two (42nd overall), so one of these names is guaranteed to be there. Seeing as things never go as planned in the NFL Draft, probably a lot more than one will still be around. No particular order:
Aaron Williams, CB, Texas
I’d love this pick. Williams, like Glover Quin, could be a candidate for safety. If they nab him and add a strong free agent corner as many of us expect, it could make for some interesting camp competition.
Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA
I think a lot of us are high on Moore because we’re used to such awful safety play, but a lot of draft pundits are very “meh” about Moore. Me, I’d love to see him come to Houston.
Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
I like Ayers. A lot. Not the fastest guy, but the guy can play football. I think he could be a steal.
Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State
Paea would make a hell of a NT in Wade Phillips’ 3-4, but I doubt he’s very high on the team’s board.
Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia
Never liked talk about the Texans grabbing him in the first, but was open to him in a trade down scenario. Naturally, I’d take a hard look at him in the 2nd.
Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
I really thought Harris was destined for the first round. I’ll be shocked – SHOCKED – if he makes it to 42.
Others:
Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina
Martez Wilson, ILB, Illinois
Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia
Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona
There are others I’d add to the list, but character concerns abound. Thoughts on the 2nd, now that you’ve had time to let the J.J. Watt pick settle for a while?

Didn’t Justin Houston fail a drug test? If that’s what i saw, you can def knock him off that list…..and Kendrick Ellis, the HUGE NT from Hampton should be a possibility for maybe the 3rd round….

I’m not gonna say anything about the JJ pick, I’m just gonna hope and believe that Wade knows what he’s doing. Heard Mario could play a little OLB to keep all 3 DE’s on the field, so it’ll be really interesting what Wade does with those 3.
With regards to the 2nd round, I also would be shocked as shit if both Williams and Harris were there by the time we picked. If one or both was there, I would love for us to nab either one of them, preferably Williams though. If not then I would take these 3 in this order of preference… Brooks Reed, next Ayers, and after that Paea…I’m starting to love Reeds game more and more. And Hell it might be somethin about that blonde hair like Clay Matthews(no homo)

This is an interesting scenario that we have. I think we are going to go secondary in the 2nd round no pun intended. In wade phillips defense you need an outside linebacker who primarily rushes the QB and another that mainly covers but does some rushing. For that reason I think they go either ras I dowling or Aaron william in the 2nd and go with somebody like bruce carter or Acho in the third.
Other names that could make the list of potential guys is Kenrick Ellis, the nose tackel out of hampton or Jabal Shaerd

I’m all in for Harris, even if they have to trade up a little. He is going to be a stud, and is a true CB

Totally agree with Allen on Harris. I think Reed is also a great prospect. JJ in the first, and Reed in the second? Now that’s a mean first two rounds!!! That could make a great combo!

All of those players highlighted in bold would make for a very sensible, good pick. Therefore, I have little faith they’ll select one of them, but you never know…miracles do happen.

Williams, Moore, Ayers and Harris. In that order.

I think y’all will be more disappointed with the 2nd round then cause I doubt Williams, Harris, Moore, or Paea are high on their board. They want that Damarcus Ware type Wade said the pass rush helps the pass defense … Wilson, Reed, Houston, or Moch … Ayers stinks of bust!

Paea seems small for a 3-4 nose tackle. Secondary help or linebacker.

Williams, Reed or Ayers would be my first 3 choices. But if all of them are gone Harris and Houston would not be bad either. No way they take Moore or Paea, sorry…

Jay Ratliff played nose for Phillips for several years. He is only 303. Paea is not much off of that. Williams or Moore is the pick, and hopefully Acho or a guy like Tandon Doss in the third.

It might tell us how they plan to use Mario, or if they plan to use Mario by who they take today. I like your list, but I would put Reed higher. I would say to put Houston higher, but fill in your own pun here.

Thank God we got Reed!!!

I for one love the Brooks Reed pick. He’ll be a hell of a player for us.

Wow, Wow, Wow!!!! I almost did a backflip…Houston Texans just did something Un-Houston Like and moved up in the draft and picked up a STEAL in Brandon Harris!!! The Texans have showed me alot that they are committed to winning not just the Harris pick, but moving up in the draft to get a player they wanted (eventho I wanted peterson)…We just feeled ALOT of holes with those 3 picks and eventho I could be happier with the Peterson pick instead, I’m excited as shit about what they just pulled off. This has to be the best 3 picks houston has ever drafted in a draft.
Damn that Brooks Reed AND Brandon Harris pick just made my day.
Sidenote: F*CK Mel Kiper for trying to Dawg the Texans on TV. “I’m just trying to coach them up”..Faggot never played football in his life let alone pee-wee football.. I appreciate Jon Gruden for having our back. F*CK Kiper!

What did Kiper say? I don’t watch ESPN draft analysis cause Kiper is a dumbass!

Laughing my a#$ off at Curtis.
This went from the most *yawn* draft to me in the first, to one of the most excited I’ve been in the 2nd. On paper this looks like a kick ass draft no matter what happens tomorrow. Time will tell how good it was, but at least its a step in the right direction.
Now as long as we pull miracle #2 and actually sign a decent free agent to play CB and possibly move Quin to a safety slot, I’ll be really excited about next year.
Our defense just got alot bigger and meaner. I like it, maybe not as much as Curtis, but definitely like it.

@JD
Kiper just mentioned how he thought Harris had regressed this year, and kind of compared him to Jackson. Pretty much everyone else said Harris was the cutoff point where we could have gotten a good corner.
I love the picks, and I really liked them moving up to get their guy. It’s amazing how a couple of good days, and I’m right back on the bandwagon. I’m thinking ILB in the 4th – Hertzlig or Matthews.

Thanx T. Williams. Harris has better cover skills than Amukumara and Smith if he was taller he could be a top ten pick. Timed 40′s have there place but are often overrated (Raiders). I think we turned our weakest position to one of our strongest all we need is the FA CB and SS. Although, I think Keo is an upgrade over Pollard we need the Veteran depth and don’t want to have a young defensive backfield again. I also like the Rashad pick for depth.
