MDTracker: Quinn, Smith, Prince closely bunched

Posted by: Chris on April 20th at 11:58PM

Quick Mock Draft Tracker update can be found here.

The 2011 NFL Draft is but a week away. A lot of mock drafters still think Robert Quinn will be around when the Texans pick at 11. Fat chance, I say.

Click above to see the latest group. Sadly, Cameron Jordan has fallen completely off the list, while Aldon Smith is of course rising.

With so little time left before the draft, it’s time to start locking in your boards. LOCK IT UP!

In my wildest dreams: Marcell Dareus.
In my just kind of really wild dreams: Von Miller or Patrick Peterson.
Hoping for: Robert Quinn or Cameron Jordan.
Preparing myself for: Aldon Smith or JJ Watt.
If best defenders gone, would love: Julio Jones.
Wouldn’t punch a hole in the wall depending on who is on the board: Prince Amukamara.
Would definitely punch a hole in the wall and probably light something on fire: Ryan Kerrigan (also possible murderous rampage).

Yeah I can’t think of the last time the texans went after there guy by trading up let’s face it the first round is ok but I agree if we want a game changer we HAVE to get prince, dareus, or Miller … To be honest I dint care who those are our biggest areas that need to be improved I like Julio to but I wouldn’t trade up for him … Remember when the Jets made moves got Sanchez and Greene and there draft was done I would be more than happy with that mentality cause no matter what everyone says there will be plenty of time to get FA no matter when we start the season… That was one long rant!

I was about to ask for your address and come slap you in the face lol.

only two players would be worse than prince, those being Aldon Smith and Kerrigan.

Wonder if there is any relation to Nancy Kerrigan, and if so, someone should go tonya harding on his ass so the texans wont pick him.

I think Quinn could go 6 or 7, and Im hoping instead of taking aldon smith, we could trade back a little with the lions.

As long as we get Quinton Carter ill be a happy camper

Agree.. if we trade up we need peterson or miller.. im sure dareus will be gone in top 3..
i am growing further away from prince he might be good but i think it would take a year or so to see it..(cough cough KJAX..) haha if we stay where we are it has gotta be Quinn..
but we’ll see last years pick took me by surprise so i am ready for anything..

Lol Smith looks like a DE who needs to put on weight and Kerrigan won’t be able to play 3-4 the only options at 11 are gonna be Jordan trade up and maybe trade down hopefully someone will want a quarterback more than the Vikings.

No love for Kerrigan? You don’t like guys that go ALL OUT on every play? You don’t like a guy that is tied for the NCAA career record for forced fumbles? This is a guy who consistently filled up the stat sheet unlike the many one year wonders in this draft. The only knock you could have on him is that he is probobly a better fit for a 4-3 DE but I think he would still be a solid 3-4 OLB for the next 10 years. He has one of the highest floors in the draft in my opinion.

Agreed with Brian. Kerrigan is a very safe pick IMO, Quinn is a huge risk pick, HUGE potential to be a bust – did not play last year at all, has a benign brain tumor, is a one year wonder – playing with Bruce Carter and Marvin Austin didnt hurt his numbers either. His ceiling might be higher, possibly, but we don’t really have the luxury of waiting for him to get there, we need results and it’s either trade up for Miller, or draft Jordan or Kerrigan.

Go for potential in round 2 with Dontay Moch and later on with Mark Scheichl.

Quinns ceiling is in another world compared to Kerrigan. It’s not even somewhat close

Yeah quinns ceiling compared to Kerrigans isn’t a question come on guys … Idk how switching a guy to a 3-4 olb is a safe pick aspecially when the word is that’s not a good fit for him … I don’t disagree he has a great motor and some potential but he’s not a number 11 pick. Furthermore, I never said Quinn in my post I said they should get there guy for once Peterson, Dareus, or Miller … If u can’t agree these guys aren’t safer and way better picks then Quinn, Kerrigan, and Smith you should probably watch the NBA playoffs and leave football to the big boys.

Dont forget that Nancy went to Purdue and Rick loves to pick up Purdue guys..sherrick Mcmanis, Jacque reeves, and Jeff Zgonina. Probably going to be ther reason that zgonina will still have a job with us next year. Nancy was also a team leader and was a starter for a few years. So he has alot of what the texans are looking for.I just hope whoever it is is the best player available. My big board for the 11th pick goes like this. robert Quinn, Julio Jones, Cameron Jordan, jj Watt, Prince amukamara, and then Aldon Smith. If it was not too early to take Jimmy Smith I would have had him on the big board as I like todd Mcshay think he will be better than amukamara.

    @ AllenOU

I don’t doubt Quinn has a higher ceiling than Kerrigan. I said Kerrigan has a higher floor. Meaning he has a lower chance of being a complete bust. I think that is what the Texans need.

    @ JD

Of course Dareus, Miller, and Peterson are safer picks. That is why they will be going top 10. Unfortunately for the Texans, we aren’t in the top 10. I doubt Quinn is there at 11 either. We are stuck with the Kerrigan, Smith, and Amukumara group. In that group, I think Kerrigan is our best bet for a productive pick.

Kerrigan is a 2nd round olb infact most people have taken him off the olb since he gained weight, is unathletic, bad standing up, and doesn’t have great straight line speed. So actually as an olb he has a much lower floor … Houston, reed, or wilson project better as olb rush linebackers and we can get one of them in the 2nd.

We need speed off the edge. It’s that simple. Kerrigan provides NOTHING in that department.

We don’t need guys with less bust potential, we need to actually hit on some of the guys with huge ceilings and low floors.

Okay.. Okay, so Kerrigan’s leading the nation in TFL’s last year and having 36 sacks in his college career means hes a 2nd round OLB? How bout YOU go watch the NBA. Typically, college production tends to translate to the NFL. He had a decent combine and pro day too, but who cares about what guys do in shorts?

Football Outsiders has him having the 2nd most sacks out of any guy except Miller in this draft – and they tend to be pretty accurate. Thats worth the 11th pick, also, if were smart we will utilize Wade Phillips ability to find late round gems and pick up a guy like Mark Scheichl.

It has nothing to do with shorts if he plays out of position he’s not going to do well. Infact most people have taken him off their boards because they don’t believe he can convert to olb. As for “college production tends to translate to the NFL.” So I guess Cam Newton and Vince Young are hall of famers … Forget scouts and late picks cause only stats matter and it doesn’t matter were u put them as long as they had good stats! Get real I guess Clay Mathews was overrated to you too! I never said Kerrigan isn’t good just not good for olb.

FYI 11 sacks for Kerrigan his junior year and 11.5 sacks Smiths freshman year so I guess that means Smith will be even better!

okay here is what they will do..
trade back a couple picks with the lions so they can get amukamara we will pick smith and get the lions 3rd round pick..
2 round we will find a safety or a corner to turn to safety..
3rd we will get an inside nt..
other 3rd we will get another olb..
4th we will get a wr to help out dre..
5th probably another corner or safety.. cant have enough playing against manning..
idk about the rest hopefully somone good..
