Mock Draft Tracker update – Prince, Quinn rising

Posted by: Chris on March 2nd at 11:11PM

Now that the NFL Combine is in the rear view, I did a 2011 Mock Draft Tracker update. Prince Amukamara and Robert Quinn are moving up, while predictably, Von Miller and Marcell Dareus are slip-sliding away *sniffle*. Irritatingly, Aldon Smith is hanging around. I wag my finger at that pick.

Click that link or hit the graphic to the right. Remember, you can also comment on the permanent 2011 Mock Draft Tracker page as well as in these update entries.

For those that have been around a while, you know how this works. As the draft draws closer, I’ll eliminate some of the mocks for various reasons. They typically include:

1) Lack of updates. Usually if it’s been a month since an update, that mock is gone unless said mock has some credibility. For instance, Lance Zierlein’s last mock was a month ago, but we all know he’s going to have a new one soon, and has just been waiting for the end of the Combine.

2) Ridiculous things. I dropped one tonight because it said the Texans might use Mario Williams as trade bait to move up in the draft. Also – anyone who updated AFTER the Combine and still had Von Miller going to the Texans (without at least some kind of attempt at an explanation of why) got the ax. Come on now, tighten up. It’s draft season.

3) Pop-up ads, slow-loading pages, or other Internet irritants. Enough said.

The first update has us down to 30 mocks from the previous 40. In another week or so, pretty much everyone should have their post-Combine mocks up, and (most of) those who don’t will not be extended an RFA tender, if you get my meaning.

In regards to #2 – ridiculous things – I would not trade Mario just to move up. I’ve already stated I would like to trade him for a pick we could use to get Miller, Darius, Peterson, or Fairley. If we trade him, I like Jordan or Watt at 11. I like Mario, but I think we help ourselves in the long run by getting something of value for him while we can. And, I think they may as well put together a two year plan on fixing this defense, cause it’s going to take at least that.

you cant trade mario, in what SHOULD be a make or break season for kubiak.

you also cant trade up, because we need every position on defense, and with this teams failures in free agency, i cant trust them to make good signings. I also think it will be hard to convince guys like weddle, rodgers, joseph, marshall etc to come here without giving them 120-140% of their actual value.

we need all our picks, and with the dunta comp pick, hopefully between rounds 3-4, we should be able to get 2-4 impact players with our first four picks.

I think our best case is to hope quinn falls, or hope newton or gabbert slips to 11, and we can trade down with a team, maybe seattle at 25 or even the fins or jags at 15-16. We could pick up an extra 2 and three, and have 5 picks from 42-80ish

at 25 we could take a guy like kerrigan or jimmy smith, and at 15 or 16 maybe aldon smith ( who i dont really like ) or cameron jordan

On the record for saying NOT to trdae Mario. But If we would do the Mario trade, it would have to be today or tomorrow (CBA rules). But regardless, I dont think therre is a 4-3 team in the top 10 that would trade for Mario straight up. I have the Panthers, Bengals, Browns (just switched), and Titans. None of those teams would trade Mario straight up for their picks anyway.

Haven’t heard much talk about him but I’ve seen Jimmy Smith CB ranked 11th overall in this draft and in this espn ranking he’s 13.

I bet we start hearing more about him in the coming days.
