Uh, yeah. You are NOT going to like this entry.
I don’t have a link for you, because I heard it directly from Sports Radio 610′s Barry Warner’s mouth. According to Warner, his “reliable source” tells him that, first of all – Gary Kubiak is going to be fired, but General Manager Rick Smith will be retained and be in charge of finding the Texans’ new head coach. Second and more frighteningly, his alleged top three candidates (in no particular order) are:
Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman (a former Texans assistant coach)
Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun (a former Texans assistant coach)
Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson
We’re just going to pretend that Warner is completely insane, okay? He’s nuts. There’s no way this is true, right?
RIGHT? Well, I can give you more bad news. A guy who we all respect and consider to be reliable, Lance Zierlein, has confirmed on his Twitter page that he heard the same list – but get this – he thought it was so ridiculous, he didn’t even in put it on his Twitter. The fact that he heard the same thing of course doesn’t make it true. There’s a LOT of smoke out there right now, especially this close to “Black Monday” when so many coaches will be fired… but I don’t know what to make of this, other than to say – hold me. I’m scared.
I tend to think this is smoke. But what worries me is that this list is SO ridiculous, that it can’t be fiction. I mean, who would make up something like that? I know Barry wouldn’t of course, but his information could be wacky.
So, uh… react to that.
I’m going to meditate for the first time in my life, and not overreact to this (for now).

If this is true then:
A) The coaching list sucks
B) They must be going the cheap route b/c they still have to pay Kubiak 4 mil a year for never doing anything.

It is either
a) Complete bunk put out by the Texans org to soften the blow of retaining Kubiak
b) Bob McNair has lost his mind
You decide.

On chron.com McClain writes he hears that Kubiak WILL NOT be fired! Bring on Monday cuz the suspense is killing me.

Barry has shown himself to be a self promoting blow hard who will say just about anything to get people to listen to him. That said, the coaching list still scares the crap out of me. Here’s hoping its just more of the same from Barry.

To begin with, if Kubiak is fired, and at this point, it is a big if, Rick Smith has to go for the move to make any sense. Secondly, if these three names are all who are being considered, then Kubiak should be retained. He has prove that he can lose. Changes aren’t necessary.

Just saw on yahoo on the rumors part that Bob is willing to go after Wade Phillips for DC, very interesting.

a.k.a, “The Nightmare Scenario”
I still say the quickest route to success is to keep Kubiak and get a PROVEN defensive mind as DC. If they can’t produce a playoff team and a decent defense in two years, dump everyone and start over.
